How Can I Tell If Someone is Lying to Me?I'm going to put a poll up right now and ask you guys to help me out with a problem I'm having in my life and I'm trying to figure out how to tell if someone is lying or not. It's something about 'how can I tell if someone is lying to me' and that is what this poll is all about.Why do people lie? Is it their power, ego, confidence or just the way they want to be perceived? Or does lying just simply happen like it or maybe is it something that we learn and understand?Well as it happens there is only one way to find out but you need to help me out and tell me how. So the question is this: why do some people try to avoid situations that expose them to criticism. How is it that other people are able to live so much of their lives around people that try to criticize them?Did you know that some alpha males are afraid to walk down the street without their jacket on. Well that is because they know that the people will ridicule them for being too weak to protect themselves. I am not saying that everyone in your life has to have a secret life or to hide who they really are but you have to learn to deal with people who try to avoid criticism.Why is it that some people would rather accept the blame for something when they should not accept it? I guess that just happens to be their nature. They do not want to be criticized and then they get upset and lash out at people when they say or do something that is wrong.So, how can I tell if someone is lying or not? Well, you can look at them and see if they are. You could also look at what they are doing when they are doing it but this is so confusing that it would be easier if you had some kind of outside help.That is why I am asking you guys to take a survey about your topic so that I can make my topic easier to read and write about. Know What You Need To Know It is important when you are deciding to learn guitar chords that you know what types of chords will lend themselves to the type of music in which you are interested. For instance, styles such as folk, pop and rock will stick with mostly with open and barre forms of major, minor and some basic seventh chords. Styles such as jazz and progressive rock require a more extensive understanding and knowledge of extended chords such as major, minor and dominant 9th, 11th and 13th chords and their many variations. 6. Make Sure You Are Practicing Correctly You are going to want to make sure you build good habits when practicing chords. Just because your fingers are in the correct places does not mean you will be sounding the chord correctly. You can assess this by playing each string in the chord one at a time and listening for muffled or muted notes. If you hear a note that sounds incorrectly, you will want to adjust your fingers. Remember it is important to push the fingertip straight into the fretboard whenever possible to prevent accidentally muting strings adjacent to those intended. You can always move your thumb further down the back of the neck to help your fingers more easily hold down the upper strings at the proper angles. 7. Understand Movable Shapes: Barre Chords Keep in mind that any chord shape you learn that does not contain any open strings (barre chords) can be moved and used as the same type of chord except under a different root (The note a chord is named after). For instance, if you move every note in an F Major Barre Chord up 2 frets from the 1st the 3rd fret, that same shape now lets you play a G Major Chord. If this is lost on you at the moment, check out tip #9! 8. Give Context To What You are Learning Make sure you pick out some songs that interest you and will really motivate you to learn. Finding songs that you like with chords you haven’t learned yet is a great way to stay on the path and keep yourself driving forward! 9. Learn Some Music Theory Having even a basic understanding of how chords are built will help you figure out how to play chords without needing a resource to show you. Music theory empowers you to not be just a guitarist but a full-blown musician as well! 10. Find a Great Teacher Truly the best approach to learn chords is to have an excellent teacher to teach you in a way custom tailored to you! With these ten tips in mind, remember: the secret to learning guitar chords is repetition. See what he had to say about his alma mater: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options.How urban or safe is the campus?Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Nat: The campus is in the heart of downtown Cambridge, and comes with all the perks and risks that that implies. All of the Boston metropolitan area is easily accessible with public transportation, and all the various things you might need to buy can be attained at shops that are easily walked to. There are, of course, crimes, but it never felt unsafe to me. VT:How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Nat: It varies, of course. There are a handful of professors who dont seem very interested in connecting with students, but they are the exception. Nearly everyone seems to take pleasure in speaking with engaged students, and will meet with you often, and sometimes in social contexts as well. VT: How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Nat: The rooms are huge and the cafeteria food is well above average. The school does its best to facilitate social gatherings, but most people spend time with their friends or their clubs separately. The only real impediment to a social life is the amount of work. VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported?What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Nat: No particular program seems more supported than another, and all have more than adequate funding. I was part of an Interdisciplinary Honors major in which I studied Philosophy, History, and Economics. The department was funded well enough for me to get money for research. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Nat: I did not spend my freshman year at Harvard, so I cant speak to that. Greek life barely exists and is not particularly relevant on campus. VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Nat: The Career Center is helpful for those looking for careers in finance, law, and industry, but its less helpful for those looking to do something more off the beaten path. However, if youre looking for a connection with a famous company, its the place to be. VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Nat: There isnt a student union, nor do most dormitories have lounges, but the libraries are plentiful, spacious, and open late. Some are even open 24 hours. There are also college-run cafes and dining halls where many students work. VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between?To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Nat: Its in an upscale part of the city. There are bookstores, cafes, movie theaters, concert venues, and lots of restaurants. Boston is easily accessible, as are many points in New England for those feeling adventurous. Most students, however, find few reasons to leave campus. VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Nat: The college part of the university consists of around 6,500 students. Lecture courses could be very large, but most courses are very small and rely on student involvement. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Nat: My junior year, I took a seminar with an Economics professor in which we read fundamental texts from history, economics, philosophy, anthropology, and sociology. Each one in some way examined how the present world came to look the way it does. The class was eye-opening and changed the way I see the world. What more can you want from a class than that?
